I am a mixed media visual artist with a focus on natural forms and
bright colours. Subjects tend to be plants and animals, but can include landscapes and people as well.
My academic background in environmental science allows me to view these subjects as they relate to each other, and how they function as an ecosystem. I appreciate the connection between art and science as different modes of observation, and value the power of creation as an educational tool. As such, I offer creative workshops featuring a range of natural sciences concepts in physical geography and biogeography as a source of inspiration.

Build A BeastWe have a look around outside for different plants and animals that live in the same neighbourhood as us, and discuss what evolutionary adaptations they have that help them survive in our temperate biome. Then we use what we've discussed to draw, write, sculpt, or craft our own imaginary organism.
From stolons to spider silk, there's an array of ways of living out there to learn from.

Map Making
We will discuss some physical geography concepts, and look at how different types of map can convey specific information. Sometimes a map is about showing you where to go, but other times it can be a record of altitude, forest density, underground water, and much more. We will imagine new landscapes and make maps to illustrate different worlds.

Nature Sketching
We will look at different plants and landscapes, and spend a few minutes on each sketch. We will discuss how to break down subjects into simpler shapes for a faster drawing process, taking inspiration from Impressionist theory.
